Sonoma, California
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Sonoma launched an initiative to support downtown businesses by converting select parking spaces into outdoor dining areas—“parklets”—throughout the Sonoma Plaza. GMH Builders partnered with the city and local stakeholders to deliver this project rapidly and effectively.
The project involved designing and installing multiple wood-framed parklets constructed to allow restaurants and cafés to continue operations while adhering to safety guidelines. These outdoor spaces offered an innovative way to reenergize local commerce during a challenging time.
The Sonoma Plaza Parklets project helped preserve jobs and stimulate economic activity during pandemic restrictions. What began as a temporary emergency response quickly became a beloved cityscape feature—blending functionality, community spirit, and adaptive design.
