GMH Delivers State-of-the-art Sonoma Fit Gym to Petaluma
“Five years ago, I did not think I would be running gyms,” says Adam Kovacs, owner of Sonoma Fit. Jenny, Adam’s wife, began her career in fitness at Parkpoint in 2010 as a group fitness instructor. At the time, she taught a popular spin class, which is how she met her husband Adam. Together, they identified the need for the community to have a gym destination that provided range of classes all under one roof. It was then they decided to start their own studio. In 2014, Adam and Jenny opened Cycle Fit and the rest is history. They’ve embarked on a journey that changed the course of their lives.
Sonoma Fit is poised for growth.
The most recent addition to Sonoma Fit, located in Petaluma, provides the area’s patrons with a boutique gym experience. Designed by architect Brad Johnson, Principal of Strata AP in Sonoma, the space offers up a modern, clean environment that does not sacrifice quality with larger spaces. The gym is designed to provide an impressive range of classes as well as a traditional gym experience. It is a full-service gym with group fitness.
GMH to delivers state-of-the-art gym on time and on budget.
The Petaluma gym required the transformation of an old gym. Work entailed the complete demolition of an existing pool and interior suites. The build-out entailed a new 20,000sf interior fitness space, new restroom and locker facilities, advanced audio-video systems, new MEP systems, and an exterior aluminum panel façade with storefront and cantilevered canopy.
As with any remodel, the project presented a host of challenges stemming from the buildings secret past. In the case of Sonoma Fit Petaluma, there were numerous conditions to consider and the utilities required creative rework. Originally, we anticipated a simple fixture swap out that ended up being completely new locker rooms.
As Adam got a feel for the space many elements were re-imagined to better suit the club’s vision. GMH and Strata AP were able to incorporate these changes on-the-fly. With a tight schedule and an advertised grand opening, the pressure was on to get the facility open on time, even with the added challenge of city mandated changes coming in at the 23rd hour.
“Working with GMH was an excellent experience,” says Adam Kovacs, '“…while I was confident the team could pull it off, it was a big project for us. I was expecting the worst because I’ve never done anything like it. The GMH team was professional and a pleasure to work with from beginning to end.”
Today, the gym is opening for business. The space contains three group fitness studios accommodating over 70 classes per week. The main fitness floor offers all new treadmills, stair climbers, ellipticals, ascent trainers, alpine trainers, rowers, stationary bicycles (some equipped with my ride technology), skiers, assault bikes, krankcycles, marpo rope trainers, versa climbers and more. There is a dedicated TRX zone with TRX straps, free weights, kettlebells and medicine balls.
A separate athletic training area has the heavy lifting equipment with a full line of Atlantis plate loaded equipment, an Olympic rig with bumper plates, multiple squat racks, a 60-foot turf field, and dumbbells up to 125 pounds. In addition, there is an outdoor turf area for patrons who want to take their workout outside.
